This VDMA Position Paper is addressed to manufacturers of mechanical seals and supply systems for mechanical seals (seal supply systems). It serves as a guide to the implementation of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, which has to be applied with effect from 29 December 2009.

The statements made in this VDMA Position Paper are based on the text of Directive 2006/42/EC and the draft of the guidelines of the European Commission. The conclusions and points of view stated in this paper are made by the working group "Mechanical Seals", part of the VDMA Fluid Power Association, and are based on the state of know-how and information available at the time of printing of this paper.
