Press release TWO FLAT – CYLINDERS ACCORDING TO ISO 6431
Cylinders with non-rotating piston rod grow in importance in the automation industry. Exact positioning and repeatability of work piece movements are more and more basic requirements for pneumatic actuators. Traditionally are offered sturdy type solutions with external guides or two piston rods in parallel. Those are suitable for big mechanical torques. But, the costs for such solutions are high in relations to the standard types of cylinders. That is the reason why for not so extrem requirements exist moderate solutions since some time. Those are able to carry smaller torques and therewith they are good alternatives for positioning of workpieces.
Therefore are wellknown various shapes of the piston rods as a difference from the circular cross-section (quadratic, hexagonal). The new TWO FLAT versions (= flat piston rod on two sides in parallel) as a supplement to the ISO standard cylinders of METAL WORK are a solution with the highest life time behind the cylindrical piston rod. The weak spot of all these cylinders is the tightening of the edges on the piston rod and guaranty of a high sealing on the piston rods’s bushing. However it is possible to use torques up to 1 Nm (for piston diameter of 50 mm and 63 mm).
The TWO FLAT version is generally fitted with a piston rod and a nut of stainless steel. Incidentally those cylinders are in dimensions and materials according to the well known ISO 6431 versions with conventional profil barrel. Excepted are of course the profiled piston rod and the spezial formed piston rod gaskets from polyurethane. Of course it can be used the complete range of the mountings for housings and piston rods and the combination with valves (adaptors) from the standard range.
The versions with through rods are existing, too. There only one piston rod is formed as a „TWO FLAT“. The other piston rod stays cylindrically. Those products complete the range from METAL WORK with offers of new competitive cylinders with non-rotating piston rods.
